Highfield Highreach Holiday is a week-long, volunteer-run, residential holiday for moderately and severely learning disabled children. It is modelled on the Oundle School Mencap Holiday, which has been running successfully for over 30 years. As well as providing 20 children with a wonderful holiday, the week also provides a valuable respite for their families, often giving them their only opportunity to holiday away from home.
As a volunteer, you'd need to give one week of your time to live at the school for the first week of August, as well as attending a couple of training days. You will be part of a group of 4, led by an experienced Group Leader. You will also be paired with one of the holidaymakers for the week as their 'night time helper'. During each day you will paired with a number of children and experience with them a huge range of exciting activities such as, Chessington World of Adventures, a Seaside trip and Marwell Activity Centre to name but a few. It is an amazing and rewarding week making a massive difference to the lives of our holidaymakers and their families.
The feedback from volunteers is that the experience is truly inspirational, great fun and of course super for your CV!
