Commuting Information

Liphook falls just into Hampshire and is surrounded by lovely countryside. It is cheaper than Haslemere because it is further south, but has good access to the A3. The Square, where six roads converge, is a conservation area dominated by the 17th-century Royal Anchor Hotel. There has been considerable development close to the centre of the village in recent years. Shopping is much improved and there is a Sainsbury’s supermarket.

London terminal: London Waterloo
Journey time: 64 mins
Peak trains: 2 per hour
Off-peak trains: 1 per hour

Haslemere is rich commuter territory, surrounded by National Trust land and with a pretty High Street stiff with half-timbered 16th-century buildings. The shops are intimate and intriguing. An attraction is the Haslemere Educational Museum, which contains displays of British birds, geology, zoology, local history and so on.

Journey time: 49 mins
Peak trains: 5 per hour
Off-peak trains: 4 per hour

Petersfield is largely a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is often referred to as Little Switzerland or the Hampshire Alps. With this remarkable landscape to hand, and with Winchester and Chichester only half an hour by car, it is not surprising that Petersfield is a very desirable, and hence expensive, place to live. Just a short walk from the High Street is a pond and 69 acres of heath. Here there are boats for hire, a cricket pitch and golf course, as well as lonelier spots where you come across Bronze Age burial mounds.
