Head of History January 2021

We wish to appoint, for January 2021, a first rate qualified and enthusiastic Head of History.  The main purpose of this teaching role is to lead and develop the teaching and learning of History to pupils in the Prep School and to continue to foster and develop links with our Pre-Prep.

History at Highfield is both popular and successful and the Department sets the highest standards. It has enjoyed outstanding success at Scholarship level and Common Entrance at both 11+ and 13+.  The Department comprises of two History specialists, though given the size of the school, the subject is also taught by Key Stage 2 qualified teachers. The successful candidate would be expected to teach History to 13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship level. 

An ability to coach games and contribute to our vibrant extra-curricular provision would be an advantage.

Girls’ Games Coaches

We are seeking to employ two suitably qualified Girls’ Games Coaches to offer coaching in Hockey, Netball and the ability to coach Girls’ Cricket and Lacrosse could be an advantage.

The roles involve up to 10 hours, five afternoons a week, including Saturdays. The successful candidates will be required to supervise their teams on match afternoons from 2.15 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays at both home and away fixtures and coach them on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 3.15 pm to 4.30 pm.

The working hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays will depend on whether fixtures are home or away.

Full time Groundsperson/Gardener

We are seeking to recruit an experienced full-time Groundsperson to help maintain and develop the grounds and gardens of Highfield & Brookham Schools, which have an estate of approximately 175 acres. Working as part of a small team of experienced grounds staff, you will maintain and improve the grounds and gardens to the highest possible standards.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good working knowledge of plants, planting schemes and some basic landscaping skills
  • Good communication skills
  • An ability to communicate with all staff and children on an appropriate level
  • Good organisation skills, self-motivation and an ability to meet deadlines
  • An ability to work well in a team as a good team player
  • Good problem-solving skills and an ability to work under one’s own initiative to complete tasks
  • Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to continued personal development
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role, preferably within a school environment
  • Experience in the use of a range of grounds machinery and garden tools
  • Full, clean Driving Licence
  • A desire to develop and improve and undertake relevant training

Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Horticulture or RHS Level 2 qualification
  • PA1 & PA6 Pesticide Application certification
  • Health & Safety Training
  • Manual Handling Training
  • Chainsaw Cross Cutting & Maintenance
  • Chainsaw – Small tree felling

This is a full-time role working from 7:30am to 4:30pm with an unpaid hour for lunch (40 hours per week) all year round.

School Nurse

We are seeking to recruit a School Nurse to provide excellent medical care and treatment to our pupils and to work alongside and support non-medical colleagues in the provision of medical and pastoral care.

Your key objectives will be to effectively deal with medical emergencies and assess and appropriately treat unwell or injured pupils. You will ensure that the Health Centre is suitably equipped, safely maintained, clean and stocked with medication that is within date and appropriately stored and ensure that all boarders have access to any medical services they require.

The Health Centre is open Monday to Friday from 7.45 am to 8.00 pm and some Saturdays from 8.15 am to 5.30 pm. It comprises an office, a shower/toilet and a three-bedded resting room, all situated within the Senior Boarding House in the main school building.

This is a full-time role (up to 37.5 hours per week), working with one other RN on mutually agreed shifts, to cover the Health Centre opening hours of 70 hours per week. Working hours are term time only plus 2 additional administration days before the start of the Autumn Term.

Essential qualifications

  • RN (child) or RN with current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Pin Number.
  • Up to date nursing validation to meet NMC guidelines on mandatory training.

You should be willing to complete training relevant to the school setting before commencing work as indicated below*

Desirable qualifications/experience

  • School nursing or practice nursing experience
  • First Aid at Work qualification, 3-day course. *
  • Safeguarding training Level 2 or 3. *
  • Experience of or qualification in sports injury care and treatment. *
  • Full current UK driving license and use of a car.

  • Possesses competent IT skills – Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Is willing to work with electronic health records and documentation via the school database, Schoolbase.
  • Has excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner.
  • Has excellent written communication, documentation and literacy skills. Able to draft appropriate letters and emails to parents and colleagues.
  • Understands the need for accurate and timely documentation – able to organise information and document assessments.
  • Must have good time management skills and be able to prioritise tasks.

Maintenance Technician

We are looking for a qualified and experienced maintenance technician to join the team that helps to maintain the schools’ buildings and properties to the highest possible standards.

You will be expected to help on all maintenance matters and projects as and when required.You will be a team player with excellent communication and organisational skills and have experience in facilities, building maintenance and small to medium works project.

Relevant experience is essential, and it will be advantageous if you have applicable technical qualifications (City and Guilds or equivalent).

A valid and clean UK driver’s licence is required.

Cleaners

Cleaners required for general cleaning duties:-

2 Morning Cleaners - 6.00 am to 12 noon and 7.00 am to 11.30 am

Evening Cleaner - 4.30 pm to 9.00 pm

Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work required.

The roles continue throughout the school holidays.

Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidates need to be flexible with a good work ethic.

£10.50 per hour (including holiday pay).

Marketing Communications Executive

We are looking to recruit a Marketing Communications Executive to support the Head of Marketing and Development to raise further the profile of Highfield and Brookham Schools. The successful candidate will deliver key aspects of communication with prospective, current and past pupils and parents. They will be responsible for writing press releases, articles for newsletters and magazines, booking advertising, taking photos and organising events.

This is a dynamic, forward-looking school and this post will suit a motivated, disciplined, confident individual seeking a busy and varied role.

This is a full-time role, although part-time or term-time hours would be considered for the right candidate.

Swim Teacher

We are looking for a swim teacher to join our popular and highly regarded Swim School, offering swimming lessons to children aged 4yrs and above in our warm, clean 20m pool.

Requirements: Candidates will be qualified to Swim England Level 2 or STA Level 2. All candidates must be able to teach in the water as well as out of the water.

Hours of work: Tuesday 3:15pm - 5:15pm. The hours are term time only. Additional hours are available during holiday periods.

Start Date: The position can start from February 2020.
